TRUSTEES
Martella Wilson-Taylor,
Marti Wilson-Taylor, Chair of the
board, became a trustee in 2006.
She is the recent past President and
CEO of the YWCA Boston. Under
Marti’s sixteen years of leadership,
the YWCA completed a major
renovation of its headquarters
building. In addition, she founded
the YWCA’s Academy of Women
Achievers, among other
accomplishments. Marti also served
on the board of the National YWCA.
Prior to joining the YWCA, Marti was
a principal in the organizational
development consulting firm, Wilson
Taylor Associates and served as
President of Transitional Employment
Enterprises, Inc. Marti currently
serves on the boards of Pine Manor
College and the Cloud Foundation and
serves on the advisory board of
South African Partners. She is a
graduate of Cheyney State University
in Pennsylvania and has a Masters in
Developmental Psychology from San
Francisco State University. Marti
lives in Brighton, has been a Boston
resident since 1981 and serves on
the Foundation’s Governance
Committee.
Adam D. Seitchik,
Treasurer of the board, became a
trustee in 2006. He is Managing
Director of Auriel Capital Limited.
Adam’s prior positions include
serving as Investment Office and
Executive Vice President for
Trillium Asset Management, Chief
Global Strategist and Managing
Director for Deutsche Asset
Management in London and as Global
Balanced Portfolio Manager,
Associate Partner at Wellington
Management Company in Boston and in
a variety of executive positions at
John Hancock Financial Services.
Adam also has taught economics at
Wellesley College and worked as a
consultant at Abt Associates. Adam
is a graduate of University of
Texas, received his Ph.D. in
Economics from Boston University and
is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Adam lives in Cambridge. He chairs
the Foundation’s Investment/Finance
Committee.
Roslyn M. Watson,
Assistant Treasurer of the board,
became a trustee in 1981. She is
President of Watson Ventures, a
company that invests in commercial
and residential real estate projects
in the United States and France and
provides real estate counsel to
American investors seeking French
real estate opportunities. Her
prior positions include serving as
Vice President at the Gunwyn Company
in Cambridge and Project Manager for
the development of Commonwealth Pier
for the Massachusetts Port
Authority. She is a graduate of
Simmons College and has a Master of
Science in Management from the
Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, Sloan School of
Management where she was an Alfred
P. Sloan Fellow. She is a trustee
of the National Osteoporosis
Foundation in Washington, D.C.,
Director of American Express
Centurion Bank where she chairs the
Audit Committee, and trustee of the
Dreyfus/Laurel Mutual Funds. Ros
serves on the Foundation’s
Investment/Finance Committee and
Executive Committee.
Iris Gomez, Clerk of the
Board, became a trustee in 2005.
She currently serves as an attorney
at Massachusetts Law Reform
Institute, a statewide legal
services support center. Iris has
helped immigrants gain access to
benefits and legal status, worked to
change policies at the state and
federal levels that keep immigrants
in poverty, and advocated for
systemic reforms that achieve social
justice for immigrants. She also
provides training and technical
assistance to other attorneys,
advocates and the public;
coordinates statewide advocacy
activities; and provides
consultation to local nonprofits in
the areas of strategy development
and fundraising. Previously Iris
was a senior attorney at Greater
Boston Legal Services where she
directed the organization’s
immigrant work. She is a graduate
of Boston University School of Law
and has taught an immigration law
course there for many years. Iris
serves on the board of the National
Immigration Law Center and was
appointed its board chair in 2002,
and she is also a published poet.
Iris serves of the Foundation’s
Governance Committee.
Penn S. Loh, Assistant Clerk,
became a trustee in 2010. He
currently is a Professor of the
Practice in the Department of Urban
and Environmental Policy and
Planning at Tufts University. Prior
to joining Tufts, Penn was the
Executive Director at Alternatives
for Community & Environment (ACE) in
Roxbury. He also has held positions
at the Pacific Institute for Studies
in Development, Environment and
Security in Oakland, CA, and the
Tellus Institute for Resource and
Environmental Strategies in Boston.
Penn received his M.S. in Energy and
Resources Group from the University
of California, Berkeley and a B.S.
from Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. He serves on the board
of the New World Foundation, the
Massachusetts Energy Facilities
Siting Board, Massachusetts Energy
Efficiency Advisory Council and
Massachusetts Climate Protection and
Green Economy Advisory Committee. He
was chosen as a Barr Fellow in 2007.
Penn’s parents immigrated to the
United States from Taiwan in the
early 1960s. Penn lives in Cambridge
and serves the Foundation’s
Governance Committee.
Barbara E. Casey, former
Chair of the board, became a trustee
in 1994. She is Managing Director,
BNY Mellon/Wealth Management,
Boston. She has held a variety of
executive positions with Schwab,
WorldClinic, Fidelity Investments,
Dreyfus and John Hancock Financial
Services. Barbara is a graduate of
Wellesley College and has a Master’s
in Business Administration from
Harvard. She also serves on the
Business Leadership Council of
Wellesley College and the Bay Cove
Human Services Board of Advocates.
Barbara serves on the Foundation’s
Governance Committee and Executive
Committee.
Maria Elena Letona became a
trustee in 2010. She currently
serves as a consultant to
immigrant-run and other grassroots
nonprofit organizations and
previously was the Associate
Director of the National Alliance of
Latin American and Caribbean
Communities and the Executive
Director of Centro Presente in
Cambridge. Earlier in her career,
Elena worked for the Mauricio Gaston
Institute for Latino Community
Development and Public Policy at the
University of Massachusetts/Boston;
Management Consulting Services;
Office of Environmental Affairs,
Department of Health and Hospitals
in Boston; and the Latin American
Department at Pathfinder
International. She received a Ph.D.
and an M.S. in public policy from
the University of
Massachusetts/Boston and has a B.A.
from Oberlin College. Elena has
served on a number of boards and was
selected as a Barr Fellow in 2005.
She was born in El Salvador and came
to the United States as a child.
Elena lives in Brighton and serves
on the Foundation’s Program
Committee.
Karen L. Mapp became a
trustee in 2006. She is a Lecturer
on Education at Harvard Graduate
School of Education and is on the
faculty of the Boston Principal
Fellows Program and the Boston
Teacher Residency Program. Karen
previously served as the Deputy
Superintendent for Family and
Community Engagement in the Boston
Public Schools, as President of the
Institute for Responsive Education
and in various teaching and
administrative positions at
Northeastern University, Harvard
University, Wellesley College and
Trinity College. She is a graduate
of Trinity College and has Master’s
degrees from Southern Connecticut
State University and Harvard
University and an Ed.D. in
Administration, Planning and Social
Policy from Harvard. Karen serves
on the boards of the Center for
Collaborative Education and the
Orchard Gardens K-8 Pilot School and
co-chairs Boston’s Campaign for
Proficiency. Karen lives in
Roxbury and chairs the Foundation’s
Program Committee.
John Hoang Sarvey became a
trustee in 2005. He is Development
Officer, School of Social Science,
Urban Affairs, and Public Policy, at
Northeastern University. Prior to
that position, he was Vice President
for Service at City Year and
responsible for the development of
the organization's service strategy
and program design. Other national
City Year positions John has held
are Director of the National Corps,
Alumni Director and Deputy Director
to the Vice President of Education
and Training; and Executive Director
of City Year in San Jose,
California. Earlier, John was
Managing Director and Chief
Operating Officer of the Campus
Outreach Opportunity League, a
national organization that promotes
and supports college student
involvement in community service.
John is a graduate of the University
of California, Los Angeles, and has
served on numerous boards including
Asian Americans for Community
Involvement, a comprehensive social
service agency in San Jose,
California. John currently is chair
of the Boston Chapter of the Coro
Alumni Association and serves on the
Boston Volunteer Literacy
Collaborative. He serves on the
Foundation’s Investment/Finance
Committee and Executive Committee.
Edward M. Swan, Jr., CFA,
became a trustee in 2001. He is the
former President of the FIS Group in
Philadelphia, an institutional
investment consultant and $1.4
billion fund of fund manager. He
served as a Visiting Faculty Member,
Florida A&M University School
of Business & Industry (MBA
Program). He has had a 30-year
career in asset management with MFS
Institutional Advisors, Franklin
Management Corp, UBS Asset
Management, Mitchell Hutchins Asset
Management, WR Lazard & Co, and
Prudential Insurance Company. He is
a graduate of Tufts University with
a M.B.A. from the Wharton School and
has taken courses in furniture
making at North Bennett Street
School. Ed serves on the
Foundation’s Program Committee and
Executive Committee.
